Craftech Products: Solar Water Heating
What is solar heating?
Solar heating systems use solar energy derived from the sun to work along with your conventional heating system to heat your domestic hot water.
How does solar heating work?
Solar panels or collectors are fitted to your roof. They collect heat from the sun’s radiation. There are two types of collectors:
1.Flat plate collector: These are the classic solar panels that have been in use on roofs around Ireland for the last number of years.
2.Evacuated tubes: These are the latest in solar collector technology. They comprise of rows of glass tubes that each contain an absorber plate which feeds a manifold which in turn transports the heated fluid. Although panels will produce more heat on a sunny day, evacuated tubes give a more even heat over more of the year and are therefore more efficient.
The heated fluid is then moved around the system using a pump and is transported through a pre-insulated cylinder where it in turn heats your hot water.
What are the benefits to me?
Solar water heating can provide you with up to 70% of your hot water needs. As the price of oil and gas goes up year on year the price of this 70% will always be the same……… It will be FREE !
What are the benefits to the environment?
The standard solar system installed in a domestic house will reduce co2 emissions by up to 1.2 tonnes depending on the type of fuel they are replacing
Summary:
The amount of energy that is transferred from the sun to the earth every 15 minutes is the equivalent to the worlds electricity requirements for the entire year. With more energy price hikes imminent in 2009 ,solar is a highly efficient and environmentally friendly way to heat your domestic hot water. As oil and gas prices continue on their upward spiral the amount of time that it takes you to recoup your initial investment will be less.
